Guided Tour of Timbati Village’s Traditional Healers - Sangomas
With Difani Hebert Mathabela
Difani was born in 1974 at Timbati Village and still lives there. He studied as a field guide learning about local plants and their healing properties; and he worked as a wildlife tracker at Kapama Game Reserve and Utley Nature Reserve. He currently works as a local tour guide and teaches tourists about the local culture. he is intimately connected with the people and leaders of his village; and in particular with local traditional healers who respect him as a young leader that understands the plants they use for their treatments.
Visitors will meet Difani in his family’s house. After introducing you to his wife and father, Difani will walk with you to nearby traditional healers (Sangomas) where he will help you interact with them to learn about their medicine and their traditions. On the way, he will point to local medicinal plants like Muringa trees, and will further explain their healing properties. Please dress appropriately for the weather and plan to bring drinking water. The experience lasts approximately 2hrs, and is appropriate for groups up to 10 people. Your payment already includes the fees that Difani will pay to the people you visit.
