With Diana and Tom Kerr
We are Diana and Tom Kerr, the owner/operators of Forest Moon Farms. We strive to provide the freshest, tastiest, all natural produce in the Triad / Triangle. We consider our growing practices "beyond organic"; we use absolutely no synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. We employ all natural methods such as companion planting, crop rotation, and permaculture design to protect and encourage naturally healthy and nutritious vegetables. We believe that naturally grown vegetables are not only the best for you, they are also the best tasting. Sustainability is a cornerstone of our business. Conscious land stewardship and conservation are as vital as profits.
Diana has an off-farm job working remotely for an environmental firm out of Virginia. Tom is a Navy veteran serving eight years on Active Duty as a Surface Warfare Officer. Our last duty station was in Washington, DC. Living in the city was a great experience but it made us realize how disconnected we had become from nature. We are both from small towns in Pennsylvania and wanted to get back to small town living. Moving back to rural America was the best decision for us. Working the land has had a profound impact on our minds and bodies; we feel healthier and more at peace than any other time in our lives together. We wish to share these benefits with our guests.
Our Tiny House on Wheels (THOW) is named Yoda's Pagoda sits at the top of 16 acre our farm. Through blood, sweat, and some tears, we built the THOW ourselves. French doors bring in lots of natural light into the cabin which has porch where you can sit and drink your morning coffee. There is a firepit and Adirondack chairs along with a pavilion with picnic tables. Enjoy disconnecting from the hectic world of everyday life in our secluded little slice of heaven. You can take a stroll throughout the property which has a small pond and stream. Relax by the pond and do a little fishing if you are so inclined. We can provide a fishing pole if you need one. We know pets are an important part of the family so please feel free to bring you four-legged pals.
Yoda's Pagoda has most of the amenities your home does. The kitchen has everything you need to cook and it's in essence a full kitchen with a 3-burner stovetop, propane oven, refrigerator/freezer, coffee pot with complimentary coffee. We also provide basic utensils, plates, pots/pans, and cooking utensils. The Queen-sized bed is located in the loft and the couch converts into a bed as well. We provide fresh and clean pillows, sheets, and comforters for each stay. The full bathroom is sized just-right; it has a full sized shower with sliding panel doors, a commode, and storage space. We provide the essentials such as soap, shampoo, and conditioner. The THOW sleeps 3 adults or a family with small children.
When visitors arrive, Tom will meet the guests and show them around the THOW and farmstead. If the guests would like, Tom can have a fire going in the firepit upon arrival. Supplies can be picked up in Liberty which is about a ten minute drive or in Burlington which is about 25 minutes. Depending on the interests of the guests, the farm experience can range from walking around chatting about sustainable agriculture to getting your hands dirty. Guests can help with soil preparation, cultivation, trellising, and the harvesting/packaging of produce. Guests can arrange to harvest produce for their meals while staying in the cabin or to take home with them.
