With Dan Gridley, Farm Boy Farms
Dan Gridley and his family have lived in Raleigh, North Carolina since 2006. Dan is an elementary school teacher and has two children that occupy a lot of his time. In 2011 Dan decided to expand on his passion for homebrewing and started farming hops in the family's Farm Boy Farms in Pittsboro, NC. Farm Boy Farms is run by the family with the help of close friends and the local community. The farm supplies hops to microbreweries in the region. Dan incorporates scientific processes and professional expertise into the farming operations and is eager to share his knowledge and expertise with anyone interested in learning about farming and homebrewing.
Dan is an elementary school teacher with a passion for homebrewing. He now offers tours to his family farm where he grows barley, rye, milo, wheat, and hops used by local microbrewers and expert homebrewers. Dan will take visitors through the grain fields (varies by season), the hop fields and trellis system, the malting building, and packaging areas. This tour is available for guests of all ages and recommended for families and groups of friends interested in craft beer and homebrewing. This tour will involve light to moderate physical activity consisting of walking distances between 1,000 and 2,000 feet with some hands-on farming opportunities. The tour lasts approximately 2 hours and is available mostly on weekends. Price applies to groups of up to 10 people.
