Back to Earth Farm Renewal
Back to Earth Farm Renewal
With Tom and Janice Henslee, Back to Earth Farm, Asheboro, NC
Tom is a grass farmer/golf and resort attorney and Janice takes care of whatever needs taking care of on the farm. They moved to NC from Texas in 2013 to start Back to Earth Farm because they wanted to reconnect with the land and create a place where others could do the same. Tom and Janice believe that when people reconnect with nature they reconnect with their soul. They are passionate about producing the highest quality food, renewing the health of the land through regenerative farming practices, connecting communities with a healthy food source, and offering a place for people to learn, rest, rejuvenate, and have fun.
Tom loves showing people around the diverse and beautiful features of Back To Earth Farm; but in particular introducing people to their cows. Janice loves to create spaces for people to relax and be whole.
A decade ago Janice was diagnosed with a life threatening illness, so they left their corporate careers in Texas and started a our journey of learning everything they could about regaining and maintaining health: body, mind, spirit, and environment. Now, in their Back to Earth Farm, they offer healthful food and experiences, and events to visitors. They both enjoy wonderful health now and are excited to share their experience and their farm with others.
Come rest, relax, cleanse your soul and experience farm life, and rejuvenate in the 110 acres of forested and pastured land of “Back to Earth Farm” located in the beautiful Piedmont area of North Carolina. Your accommodation will be a cabin nestled in the forest overlooking the Uwharrie River. The best spot on the entire farm is a rocking chair on the cabin porch watching the river roll by. Once you get here and take a deep breath, you will never want to leave!
The “cabin” is hand-crafted from pine and cedar and is an amazing piece of architecture. The smell of cedar wafts by as you walk in the door. It has 2 bedrooms, a bath, living area, dining area, full kitchen, heating and air, fireplace, TV, wraparound lower porch, 2 upstairs porches, and a 2 car covered car port. The upstairs bedroom is a loft area with 2 single beds and a queen bed. The bathroom is downstairs with a shower, no bath tub. It can comfortably sleep 6, but note that the cabin is not child proofed.
This experience includes complimentary coffee and tea, fresh eggs from the farm’s chickens, and depending on the time of year, any seasonal produce you would like to gather. You can pick up other supplies from Asheboro.
Upon arrival, Tom and Janice will introduce visitors to the farm and explore sights and activities tailored to the visitors’ interests. The farm experience may focus on sitting by the river or walking through the forest, or it can be more hands-on learning experience about sustainable agriculture and healthy living. Visitors may help move cows, set fences, learn about how rotational grazing renews soil and animal health, the environment, nutrient dense foods, and ultimately people’s health. Learn to analyze pasture and soil health, about composting, and depending on the season help with things like planting, cultivating, or harvesting produce from the garden. Collect warm freshly laid eggs, learn about bees and their contribution to the whole system or get a guided tour of the land, water, and forested areas.
