With Felipe Ujpan Mendoza

Felipe is an internationally known painter in this picturesque and friendly Tz’utujil Maya town of San Juan La Laguna. He has had exhibits of his unique art-naif style of painting. Work mostly with oil and canvas, Felipe has been at the forefront of his generation of San Juan painters. As he has grown, so also has his painting skills and now ventures into a variety of themes and styles. For many years he has been working with the youth of his native community to pass along his knowledge about painting. Volunteering his time, he frequently goes to local schools to work with small groups of school children to teach them how to paint. There are now hundreds of children that have participated in his lessons.

In this tour you get a chance to sit down with one of the leading art-naif painters of Guatemala for a painting lesson. Felipe will instruct you on a canvas and lead you through the basics of selecting the oils, designing the theme and leading you through the steps of putting paint on canvas. He will have a canvas ready for you when you arrive and will spend two hours going through the basics. The lesson is for two hours, but you can pay there for an additional hour. At the end of the session, you will be able to take home the canvas you painted as a souvenir. Children ages 8-12 will pay only $12. Each additional hour after the first two costs $12 (for adults) and $8 for children between 8-12.

PRICE Starts at $45.00
